SIMPLE
Spiritwork

WINTER 2020

I can build a daily practice.

➕ How to plan and implement your animistic spiritual practice.

➕ How to make time for it. (Chronomancy is the coolest.)

➕ How to create new habits. (Hint: Habits are a type of trance!)

➕ How to overcome the force that glues us to the couch.

➕ How to deal with the more insidious faces of Inertia.

➕ How to draw amazing power from the Sun! 🌞

Okay, that last one sounds weird, but that’s what “daily” means:
f
ixing our work to the rising and setting of the Sun. It’s powerful!

WINTER 2020

I can build a daily practice.

➕ How to build your animistic spiritual practice.

➕ How to overcome the force that glues us to the couch.

That last one sounds weird, but that’s what “daily” means:
fixing our work to the rising and setting of the Sun. It’s powerful!

Bring your practice to life.

Some of y’all have caught onto the lie that new habits are easier to create when the Gregorian calendar changes its last two digits.

2019 👉 2020!

It’s supposed to be new year = new you. But, for myself, not only are new habits as hard as ever to make, old habits aren’t any easier to break. I’m probably going to write 2019 on my next few rent checks and hopefully catch myself before I stick it in the mail.

So, when I tell y’all that this class will help you create a daily spiritual practice…you might be a little skeptical. Building a spiritual practice is challenging enough. But, a DAILY practice? Like, every day? Sounds like a recipe for failure. New year = new ways to fail.

But, here’s the thing. Spiritwork can be more than just the what and the sometimes overlooked why of our daily spiritual practice—

Spiritwork can also show us how.

Habits are a type of trance. Signing your bills 2019 until March is a trance. And spiritworkers, we know trance. Through spiritwork we learn how to take that most pervasive of unconscious human tools and wield it consciously and intentionally. We learn how to pick it up and put it down at will. And, through animistic spiritwork, we discover the benefits of treating that tool as if it had a kind of life. We make friends with trance.

Of course, there are many kinds of trance. For many of us the daydreaming sort of trances are already daily companions—the heady, floaty, I didn’t mean to go down this rabbit hole, but now that I’m here I wonder... In this training we’re going to emphasize the intentional, the experiential, and experimental.

Wondering if we’re a witch or a spiritworker can be a little destabilizing, but it’s not nearly as dangerous to our status quo as sitting down and doing some witchcraft or standing up, rocking, and moving through some spiritwork! And by dangerous I mean: likely to cause personal growth and enflame the Soul. 🔥

Are you ready to put the practice in spiritual practice? Ready to put the work in spiritwork? Do you want to live more dangerously?

Information & Implementation

I love books. I love information and inspiration. I have books with page edges gone soft from years of thumbing through them whenever my heart feels called.

This class is not a book. There will be great information. There will be poetic inspiration. But, importantly, there will be implementation.

We are going to do the work.

The comfort of knowing a book will always be there doesn’t help us do the work. Necessity helps us do the work. Needfire, as some of y’all have heard me call it.

So, just like if we were gathering in-person for retreat or ritual, for training or a long night talking around the campfire—the materials in the classroom won’t be there forever. At the end of our month of training, class will be dismissed, and we’ll be walking out of the classroom like a bunch of proud graduates. “We did it! I have an amazing animistic spiritual practice!”

The guided spiritworking will be your only keepsake. You’ll get a downloadable *.mp3 that you can use in your practice and re-visit as often as you like. Nice thing about spiritwork, it’s never the same twice!

During our month together, there’s flexibility. You can work at your own pace. If you’re a die-hard procrastinator, then I imagine you’ll be able to skim through every lesson in the classroom in a long afternoon as the clock ticks down.

But, you might surprise yourself this time. This particular class is actually about habits, procrastination, resistance, how to prioritize the subtle, forming a healthy relationship with discipline, and all of those things that keep us from making the magic that’s going to change our lives and change our world.

This is the Winter 2020 session of Simple+Spiritwork, and it’s happening here and now.

Who is this for?

Who is this for?

This class is for folks of any religious or spiritual background who are interested in developing or deepening their spiritual practice through animism. Atheists can have a spiritual practice, too.

This class is not for people who will be offended to learn that my background is traditional witchcraft. Questions about witchcraft from participants will be welcome.

This class is for beginners and advanced practitioners alike. Beginners will enjoy the simple, straight-forward, easy-to-understand language and approach. Advanced practitioners will recognize that simplicity is another word for clarity—something hard-won in the hidden realms.

This class is not for bigots, trolls, or assholes.

We’re going to try new things and embrace our capacity for change. We’re going to try things that won’t work for you. We’re going to try things that will be like: Where has this method been all my life?

Who is Ren?

Who is Ren?

Howdy, free spirit! I’m Ren Zatopek, a traditional spiritworker from Texas, long-time west coast witch, now living in beautiful North Carolina. I look a bit younger and sweeter than I really am. I take that back. I am genuinely the sweetest. I’m sweetly humming a tune as we dig through mounds of ancestral skulls together, weeping sticky tears that look like crude oil and starlight. You’re getting tired, and I’m there to put an arm around your shoulder and say, “Keep digging, friend!”💀

In my experience, most of the time, sweet, sensitive support is just what’s needed to help folks through their usual and unusual blocks. Just a spoonful of sugar helps the medicine go down! 🎵 I’m your mystical Mary Poppins complete with magic purse of infinite depth and ability to turn chalk drawings into portals to the Hidden World.

I also am inclined to swearing like a sailor, shape-shifting around bonfires, and studying a variety of martial arts…which may or may not be like Mary Poppins, because really, what do we know about Mary? She might be into swords and sailors. She’s a very mysterious witch.

“Folks, particularly you woo-woo witchy types, you really need to check this out!

There are very few people I would trust to teach this type of work as much as I trust Ren Zatopek. She is wildly brilliant, hilarious, radically inclusive, inclusively radical, a truly powerful witch, and an all around awesome person.

For folks like me who are fascinated by this, but a bit resistant to woo-woo witchiness, Ren is really splendid at helping us re-frame how we see and think of concepts like Spirit–part of her welcoming vibe. You’ll instantly see why folks adore her so much.”
